We Reset All Ducks to Launch NFC Tracking — Here's Why
Quick but important note, Ducksters: on June 20, 2026 we reset every duck on DuckyTrack — all tags, journeys, and stats are starting fresh. We're sorry for the disruption, and we want to be upfront about exactly why we did it.
Why we reset everything
Two big things happened at once, and both required rebuilding the system that powers every tag:
- We launched NFC "tap-to-track" tags. Adding tap-to-track alongside our classic QR codes meant changing how every tracking code is generated and read.
- We closed a scan-abuse loophole. The old setup let automated bots and crawlers rack up bogus "finds," which polluted the map and the leaderboards. Our new system authenticates every real scan, so the journeys you see are genuine.
Because the underlying tracking codes changed, old tags and their histories couldn't carry over cleanly — so rather than leave anyone with a half-working tag, we reset to a clean, trustworthy slate. We know that stings if your duck was racking up the miles, and we genuinely appreciate your patience.
What's new and better
- 🆕 NFC tap-to-track tags — finders just tap their phone, no app and no typing.
- 🔒 Authenticated scans — every find is verified, so bots can't fake journeys and your map stays real.
- 🏷️ Free QR tags are still free — design and print your own anytime.
How to get going again
It only takes a minute:
- Create a new free QR tag (or watch the store for the NFC tap-to-track Duckling Pack).
- Stick it on your duck and set it loose.
- Follow its brand-new journey on the live map.
Thanks for sticking with us while we made DuckyTrack faster, fairer, and ready for tap-to-track. Now go put a duck back on the map. 🦆💛
